History of the brewery

We are proud to proclaim that we are the oldest brewery with an inn in Prague!

The roots of the brewery go back to the 15th century. We are located on the site of a former malt house and brewery, which supplied beer to the whole of Prague at the time. The building’s name has changed several times: Dům U supa, Dům U Kindle, Dům U Kaplířů, Dům U Kondlů and Dům U zlatého supa. And since 2016, we have named the building Pivovar U Supa. In addition to the brewery and malthouse, a jewellery factory was located here in 1804, and in 1861 the world-famous Mercy printing house and goldsmith Gindl were located here. As proof, you will be captivated by the late-Gothic Renaissance archways as soon as you enter.

We are located on the oldest and busiest street of the Old Town, roughly in the middle of the ‘Royal Road’, where Charles University is also located. And what is this street called? Well, it’s Celetná street!
